t is possible to know exactly where in a box a rat is, by reading the activity of the rat hippocampus by using electrodes that are attached to the brain. The hippocampus is the part of the brain where the mind is local and depends on where the rat is so different neurons in the hippocampus activated. Some neurons are active in the eastern corner of the box, other neurons are active in the west corner and a third group of neurons in the middle of the box. In an attempt to beat the rats to get to know two different environments, a box of light from the floor and a box of light from the wall. The researchers wanted to know what's going on in the heads of the rat when the lightning fast changing environment. Environmental change occurred through the floor extinguished the lights while still lit on the wall. With it began the electrical activity between the two groups neurons oscillate at high speed, eight cycles per second. The different groups of neurons were not active simultaneously. The researchers interpret this as the rat did not know where it was until stopped commuting, with steady activity in only one place in the hippocampus. - This is basic research, says one of the researchers May-Britt Moser is a professor in the Department of Neuroscience at Kavliinistitutet, the shows what happens when different drives are in conflict with each other and what happens in the transition between different memories.
The new research appears to be able to explain what is happening is that brief moment when you wake up as a question mark in a hotel room. Commuting in the hippocampus must first stop before making that they are at the hotel.
